The original Hellraiser was a piece of cinematic genius; one of the finest horror films of its time, spawning a vast mythos of creative charm. However, these days, there’s no such thing as leave well enough alone”. A remake has been in the works for a while, and Clive Barker, creator of the original, has signed on to do the script. In reality, a large part of his joining-up was so that another writer wouldn’t butcher the film, as it was going to happen whether he wanted it to or not.

Theyre going to remake Hellraiser One with a lot more money and theyve invited me to write it â“ the invitation came from Bob Weinstein â“ which I am going to do, on the basis that if I dont do it, it will be done in some way that I probably wont like!”

I’d been enjoying most of the low-budget straight to video Hellraiser films, as they had more in common with the Hellraiser comics, which I found a great

With any luck, Barker hasn’t lost his touch with the Hellraiser mythos. But, of course, there’s always the threat of studio involvement”. Think Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth” or Hellraiser: Bloodline” and you’ll get the idea.
