Ashton Kutcher stars as a buff lifeguard in the movie The Guardian costarring Kevin Costner. One small problem in the shooting is Kutcher can’t stand water.

I don’t like water and being in it,” Kutcher confessed to Britain’s Sunday Express. As a kid growing up I learned to swim but it wasn’t real swimming it was doggy paddling.”

Shooting this film was a case of being forced to face ones fears. Since shooting required the him to be submerged in water for up to nine hours a day. You get unbelievably cold and it’s the hardest thing I’ve done,” he said. When I started swimming in the ocean, I was throwing up constantly but I made myself keep going. Every time I threw up, I’d go back in and swim more.”
