The Wachowski Bros., best known for their work on Bound, the Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta, will be writing the script as well as directing the live-action film adaptation of the milestone anime series, Speed Racer.

Known as Mach Go-Go-Go” in Japan, Speed Racer is one of the more beloved cartoon classics and one of the earliest instances of Japanese animation being dubbed and imported into America.

The Wachowskis will be bringing several staff members from the Matrix films into this project, including the Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor of the trilogy, John Gaeta. And, unlike their previous films, Speed Racer will most certainly be family-friendly and not a dark and violent R-rated movie.

The Wachowski’s are gunning for a Summer 2008 release.
